Like bananas and ice cream, some things were meant to go together. Like movies and the iPhone. The wimpy speakers aside, I love watching podcasts on my iPhone, including the goofy B-movies from Cult of UHF. :-)
You can buy your movies from iTunes, and all the issues that go along with that, or you can rip your own DVDs into an iPod-/iPhone-friendly format using Handbrake. It took me a whopping 30 minutes to rip a 90 minute movie, and just under a gig of space. Just drag the created .mp4 file to your iTunes library under Movies. Sync your iPhone and select the movies to sync. Super simple.
